The actor Zac Efron responsible for starring in the three films of “High School Musical”, reviewed a scene from the first film and revealed details about the behind-the-scenes of it 18 years after its release.
Zac Efron participated in a segment in the American magazine Vanity Fair where movie stars review scenes from some of the productions they were involved in. Among films such as “Neighbors” (2014), “The Greatest Showman” (2017), “The Iron Claw” (2023) and “All in the Family” (2024), the actor recalled a scene from the first “High School Musical”, released in 2006.
The moment revisited by Troy Bolton’s interpreter was the performance of “Get’cha Head in the Game” a song that illustrates the character’s basketball training.
According to Zac’s interview, they didn’t use CGI (computer-generated imagery) or stunt doubles, since they had a low budget for the production. He and the other actors in the scene actually put in the effort to play the sport and make baskets.
“I actually made all those baskets,” Zac Efron told the outlet. “That scene takes me back to where I was back then. With those young guys on the team. We were so young and so incredibly motivated.
“Not everyone knows, but ‘High School Musical’ was meant to be a small thing. We had very little time to shoot or rehearse the scenes. But Kenny Ortega (director) had big ambitions for the film, so he was very excited to see how excited all of us in the cast were to be in the production and not only fulfill what he wanted, but deliver more,” he added.
Finally, the star recalled what it was like to record the assisted scene, and how they did very well in filming.
“That basketball scene, I think we practiced it for like two days, playing and singing at the same time. After only five takes, we got it all down and nailed it. The last one was the one that went in, and they didn’t have to cut anything,” he said.
“I miss everyone, this is making me reminisce. I haven’t watched the movie in years, this is crazy,” Zac Efron concluded.
