Zac Efron says he would be honored to play Matthew Perry in biopic

Shortly after Matthew Perry’s death, his friend Athenna Crosby, with whom he had dinner the day before, revealed the actor’s desire to see his former co-star, Zac Efron, playing him in a possible film about his life.

In an Instagram video, she said the actor talked about who he would like to play him in a biopic he was planning based on his memoirs: “Friends, Love and That Terrible Thing: The Memoirs of the Friends Star.”

“And he had worked with Zac Efron in the past on a movie, and he said he wanted Zac Efron to play him as a younger version. [de si mesmo] and that I was going to ask him soon to do it. He was eager to share more about his story and his recovery from addiction, and really champion this cause to help more people, so he was very optimistic and happy about everything he wanted to do.”

This week, Efron reacted to Perry’s friend’s revelation. During the red carpet at the premiere of his new film “The Iron Claw” in Dallas, Texas, the actor spoke to “People” magazine about the possibility. “I’m honored that he was thinking of me to play him,” says Efron. “We’ll see. I would be honored to do that.”

The actor continued and talked about his relationship with Perry. “He was a mentor to me and we made a really cool movie together,” he says. “I admired him, I learned comic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming ’17 Again,’ it was so surreal for me to look the other way and have him there, because I learned so much from him, from his whole life.”

In “17 Again,” Efron played a younger version of Perry’s character when he falls into a time vortex and becomes a teenager again.
