Russia today said it was “ready” for talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Geneva on Thursday, following Moscow’s recognition of self-proclaimed pro-democracy supporters.
“Even in the most difficult times (…) we say: we are ready for the negotiation process, that is why our position remains the same (…). We are always in favor of the use of diplomacy,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Sakharova in her comments posted on YouTube.
The Russian ministry, meanwhile, said Moscow must first ratify the friendship agreements with Donetsk and Lugansk before discussing issues such as the exact borders of the regions, RIA Novosti reported.
