Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Wednesday accused the United States of inciting geopolitical tensions in Ukraine to block the operation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
According to the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ultimate goal of Washington is to seize a share of the European gas market from Russia, according to the Interfax news agency.
It is recalled that the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is going to transport Russian gas to Germany. The construction of the pipeline has already been completed and the approval of the German regulatory authority is expected to be put into operation, an issue that has been delayed.
Meanwhile, the West, amid fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, has threatened Moscow with sanctions in the event of military intervention, including sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
