Ukraine’s state nuclear company Energoatom said on Saturday that Russia had bombed the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant complex in Russian-held southern Ukraine.
“During the last (24 hours), Russian troops again bombarded the premises of the Zaporizhia nuclear plant. The damage is currently being ascertained,” Energoatom wrote in a statement on Telegram.
A statement from Russia’s Defense Ministry in turn blamed Ukraine for the bombing of the factory, noting that the bombing occurred three times in the past 24 hours.
Russia and Ukraine have traded accusations over shelling near the plant, which on Thursday sparked fires in the ash pits of a nearby coal-fired power plant that disconnected the plant from the grid.
