Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is disconnected from Ukrainian power grid

Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has again lost connection to the last remaining external power line, but continues to supply electricity to the grid through a backup line, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Saturday. (3).

Experts from the UN nuclear watchdog now stationed at the plant were told by the Ukrainian team that the fourth operational 750-kilovolt power line had failed after three others were lost earlier, the agency said in a statement on its website.

But IAEA experts also found that a backup line connecting the facility to a nearby thermal power plant is supplying electricity to the external grid.

This reserve line can also provide backup power to the ZNPP (Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant), if necessary, they say.
