The singer Zayn Malik former member of One Direction was revealed in a tournament of Yu-Gi-Oh! — Japanese media franchise whose main theme is duels and cards — in an online championship broadcast, this Thursday (29).
Called Nocturne, the artist used a mask and a voice changer and had therefore not yet been recognized. Malik himself did not compete in the competition, but provided commentary on the final contestants’ performances alongside the hosts.
After one player was crowned the winner, the owner of “Dusk Till Dawn” came forward and shared his love for the franchise.
“Yeah, I’m a huge, huge Yu-Gi-Oh! fan. I’ve been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! for a long time, since I was a kid, so it’s an honor to be here, to do this, and it’s been really exciting. I’ve been looking forward to it for a few weeks now,” he said.
On his social media, the singer also revealed the news: “Surprise, I was the Shadow Duelist! Thank you Yu-Gi-Oh! for having me and giving me the opportunity to show my Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom to the world and congratulations to the winner for claiming the Nocturne mask!”.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the artist even joked about releasing new music soon: “I have some exciting things coming out with my music soon, some pretty big announcements coming, so if you’re interested in my music, I have some cool news coming soon.”
