Zeca Pagodinho gives tips to new samba names: “Inspiration and affection”

The singer Zeca Pagodinho reflected, in an interview with CNN on the emergence of new samba circles and the consequent oxygenation of the rhythm. A renowned name in the genre, the carioca celebrated the 40th anniversary of his career, which began with the release of “Shrimp that Sleeps the Wave Takes It ” in 1983.

The samba singer welcomes the arrival of new names to the rhythm and the popping up of circles around Rio de Janeiro that are inspired by the work done by Cacique de Ramos over the last six decades.

“It’s the kids arriving. Just as we arrived some time ago, now a new group is arriving”, defended Zeca.

As a result of this habit of samba singers of sponsoring young talents, the voice of “Verdade” and “Ogum” was released with the blessings of Beth Carvalho who earned the nickname “godmother of samba” precisely for helping to popularize names of the caliber of Arlindo Cruz , Jorge Aragão It is Almir Guineto .

Zeca, in turn, reciprocating what samba gave him, launched the project “Quintal do Pagodinho”, which has already had three editions and brings together the composers behind the songs with which he was successful. It was his way of shining a light on names like Serginho Meriti, Rixxah and Alamir, who wrote “Deixa a Vida Me Levar”, “Chibatas do Destino” and “Ratatúia”, respectively.

Some samba circles that have already established themselves on the Rio scene, such as Samba da Volta and Poeira Pura, have recently released releases with their own repertoire and look to the pagodas of the past to think about the future. To younger samba players, as Edson Conceição and Aloísio Silva wrote and immortalized Alcione, Zeca gives the advice to make music with love.

“That’s right there. You have to do good, cool things, with inspiration and affection,” she said.

Zeca Pagodinho has no idea of ​​his own success

He began his career singing in samba circles in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro and released his first song, “Camarão que Dorme a Onda Leva”, which he wrote with Arlindo Cruz and Beto Sem Braço, advised by his godmother Beth Carvalho.

To celebrate his 40 years of career, the samba singer began, on Friday (21), a tour with which he will tour Brazil until December. There will be a total of 17 shows in 13 different cities, as well as a themed cruise.
