Zelenski vs. Erdogan: ‘He has not fulfilled what he promised’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused his Turkish counterpart, Tayyip Erdogan, of failing to deliver on his promises to provide security for Ukraine or to mediate in wintering from the Russian invasion Ukrainian cities.

In a press conference given to the Ukrainian media in Kyiv on Tuesday, Zelensky stressed the importance of security guarantees from other countries, noting that Turkey said that it would be one of the countries that will guarantee Ukraine, but at the moment has not does nothing.

“I do not see any signature from the Turkish president on the guarantees for Ukraine, nor from some other countries in the international community,” he said.

Russia may invade again

“We need security guarantees, Russia can come back here in two years,” Zelensky said. “We are ready to join NATO tomorrow, but unfortunately this is not going to happen, so we need these security guarantees,” he said.

Regarding foreign aid to Ukraine, the Ukrainian leader said that his country needs serious players who will be ready for anything.

He also blamed Erdogan for evacuating civilians from Azov Sea cities, saying he depended on a Turkish president who is an interlocutor of Vladimir Putin.

Turkey says it is ready to receive civilians from Berdyansk, but not from Mariupol as this is not possible, Zelenski said. “It is up to Erdogan now to proceed with this operation, which is talking to Putin. It is the Russian president who is blocking its implementation,” the Ukrainian leader complained.
