Zelenski’s speech at the SA UN envoy: Russians want to turn Ukrainians into ‘silent slaves’

LAST UPDATE 18:17

Speaking to the UN Security Council, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expected the Russians to “accuse everyone just to justify their actions” in Ukraine.

“They will say that there are different versions, different versions, it is impossible to determine which of these versions is true,” he told a translator in a teleconference. “They will even say that the corpses were, from the ones that were allegedly thrown away and all the videos are set up, but now we are in 2022.”

In a passionate speech, Zelensky described in detail gloomy scenes in the Ukrainian city of Butsa, saying Moscow wanted to turn Ukraine into “silent slaves”.

Zelenski said “we have convincing evidence that there are satellite images” that show what really happened during the Buca attacks, adding that “we can conduct full and transparent investigations”.

Zelensky on Tuesday urged the United Nations to act and reform its veto-wielding system in Russia’s permanent Security Council, saying “everything must be done to ensure that the international body works effectively.”
