Twenty-eight ships carrying various agricultural products left Ukrainian ports last week after Russia changed course on Wednesday (2) to resume the Black Sea grain export agreementsaid Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday (5).
The ships transported more than 800,000 tonnes of food products from the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdenny, Zelensky said during his evening speech.
“The destinations are Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Oman, Turkey, China and Ethiopia. In addition, the ship to Ethiopia with 30,000 tonnes of wheat on board was chartered by the UN Food Program (World),” said the Ukrainian leader.
Zelensky called this week’s revival of the Black Sea grain corridor “one of the most significant international results of all autumn.”
“We have shown that the world is capable of guaranteeing stability despite threats from Russia,” he said. “The world did not succumb to Russian blackmail, the main actors acted decisively and, as a result, the worsening of the food crisis was avoided,” said the Ukrainian president. “When the world is united, terrorists don’t stand a chance.”
Zelensky concluded his speech with what he called “further proof of the power of real-world unity.”
He said Ukrainian charity platform UNITED24 has received $220 million in donations from people living in more than 100 countries around the world since its launch six months ago.
Ukraine will launch a new fundraising effort next week under the platform to raise money for a fleet of maritime drones, according to Zelensky.
