The transfer from Russia of “tens of thousands” of Ukrainians in the territories it has occupied in Ukraine is “clearly a genocide“, the Ukrainian president accused today from the floor of the UN Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We know the names of tens of thousands of children and have evidence of hundreds of thousands more abducted by Russia, from its occupied territories Ukrainianand then they were displaced,” he complained.
“We are trying to get these children home, but time is running out. What will happen to them? In Russia they are taught to hate Ukraine and all ties with their families are severed. This is clearly a genocide,” the president complained, under the gaze of Russia’s deputy ambassador to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, who was present in the room.
The International Criminal Court in March issued an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin for the “illegal displacement” of thousands of children from Ukraine starting in February 2022. The Kremlin rejects the charges and the court’s jurisdiction.
