Zelensky accuses Russia of trying to “complicate and drag” peace negotiations

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Russia is establishing conditions to “complicate and drag the process” of peace negotiations.

“The exchange of prisoners and a 30-day ceasefire is the first steps that can significantly bring us closer to just and lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to take these measures because the Ukrainian people want peace more than anyone, ”Zelensky wrote in a post on social networks.

“Meanwhile, the world sees how Russia is deliberately establishing conditions that only complicate and drag the process, as Russia is the only part that wants war and diplomacy to fail,” added the Ukrainian President.

His comments were made a day after Russia President Vladimir Putin questioned the proposal for US mediated ceasefire when US special Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow.

Meanwhile, the United States supported a declaration of G7 foreign ministers on Territorial Integrity and the right to exist ”from Ukraine amid negotiations to try to end the war with Russia after the large -scale invasion of Moscow in 2022.

In preparation for Friday’s joint statement, there was uncertainty about whether the US would be willing to support strong language about war.

“We reaffirm our unshakable support to Ukraine in defense of his territorial integrity and the right to exist, and his freedom, sovereignty and independence,” the ministers said in the statement.

The declaration also praises “Ukraine’s commitment to immediate ceasefire” and asks Russia “that reciprocates with a ceasefire in equal terms and implementing it in full.”
