Zelensky and European leaders call Trump after negotiations with Russia

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, France President Emmanuel Macron, Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Strmer, and Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk talked with US President Donald Trump on Friday (16), said the leader spokesman Ukrainian.

The spokesman informed reporters that the details of the conversation would be released soon. The conversation occurred after negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul, with a Ukrainian source classifying Moscow’s demands as “unviable”.

Conversations mark the first direct negotiations between the two countries in three years, after pressure from US President Donald Trump to end Europe’s most deadly conflict since World War II.

The expectations of an advance, already low, were even more shaken on Thursday (15), when Trump said there would be no advance without a meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A Turkish delegation also participates in the meeting.
