Zelensky: At 22 the dead from a Russian attack on a train station in Ukraine

LAST UPDATE: 23.42

The death toll from a Russian rocket attack on a train station in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday has risen to 22 from an initial estimate of 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a videotaped address, according to Reuters.

“I just received information about a Russian missile strike at a railway station in the Dnipropetrovsk region (…) on carriages at Chaplino station. Four carriages are on fire,” Zelensky said earlier. Chaplino is 145 kilometers west of Donetsk.

According to the Ukrainian president, “rescuers are on the ground, but the death toll may be heavier. This is our daily life.”

The blow comes as Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day from the former Soviet Union. The war with Russia entered its seventh month today.

Earlier today, Zelenskiy assured that his country will fight “to the end”.

The fighting is now concentrated in eastern and southern Ukraine, where neither side appears to be making any gains. Russia, however, regularly hits other Ukrainian cities with long-range missiles, according to Kyiv.
