Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Russia’s former Defense Minister and Chief of General Staff for attacks on Ukrainian civilians and civilian property.
“All criminals involved in planning and executing these attacks must know that justice will be served. And we hope to see them behind bars”, said Zelensky this Tuesday (25).
“We expect more arrest warrants to deprive Russia of its feeling of impunity,” he added.
In a press release, the court said the judges concluded there were “reasonable grounds to believe that the two suspects are responsible for missile attacks carried out by the Russian armed forces against Ukrainian electrical infrastructure since at least October 10, 2022 until at least March 9, 2023.”
Russia has repeatedly stated that Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is a legitimate military target and denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.
