Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky drew parallels between the Second World War and his country’s battle against Russia in a speech to French lawmakers in Paris this Friday (7).
“Hitler crossed several red lines, (Vladimir) Putin does the same,” he said, adding that Ukrainians were the heirs of Allied World War II fighters.
His speech was enthusiastically greeted by the French National Assembly, with lawmakers giving him a standing ovation. In the first months of Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Zelensky addressed the French National Assembly by video.
“France, I thank you for being by our side, defending life,” he said in French.
On Thursday (6), French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris and Kiev will sign an agreement for France to supply Ukraine with Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets.
