The decision of the Commission to propose the granting of EU status of a candidate country for Ukraine, will help Kyiv to defeat the Russian invasion, said Ukrainian President Zelensky.
“It is the first step on the path to EU membership that will surely bring our victory closer. I thank Ursula von der Leyen and every EU member for a historic decision,” he wrote on twitter.
He added that he expects EU leaders to approve the proposal next week.
