Zelensky postpones visit to Spain and Portugal due to escalation of hostilities in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has postponed a visit to Spain and Portugal, authorities said today, with CNN Portugal and other media reporting that this was due to the escalation of hostilities in his country. King Felipe of Spain was to host a reception and dinner in Zelensky's honor on May 17. Zelensky was also due to sign a bilateral security agreement with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez following a joint NATO declaration last year. A Portuguese government spokesman said the Ukrainian president had postponed his visit but did not give a reason. The Spanish government responded that it was not commenting for security reasons. Along with other EU countries, Spain has pledged to support Ukraine with financial and military aid after the Russian invasion in February 2022. Source: APE
