THE Volodymyr Zelensky in a message to the European Council said that the Russian military has targeted the Ukrainian network electricity supplyso as to create a problem, on the occasion of the arrival of winter.
Specifically, he said that Russian attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine “are intended to cause as many power and heating problems as possible this fall and winter to force as many Ukrainians as possible to seek refuge in your countries.”
Energy-saving measures are being implemented across Ukraine following a Russian missile and drone strike that destroyed about a third of the country’s power plants within a week, according to Zelensky.
In response to these attacks, the Ukrainian president asked EU leaders to further strengthen Ukraine with advanced air defense systems and impose new sanctions on Russia to limit its ability to finance its war campaign.
