Russian forces will attempt another attack against Ukraine at the end of May or in the summer, Volodymyr Zelensky warned during a press conference in Kiev.
“We will prepare for their attack. The attack that started on October 8 did not bring results, I believe,” said the Ukrainian president.
Ukraine has a clear counterattack plan against Russian forces, he said, adding that he could not reveal details, while linking recent changes in the leadership of the Ukrainian armed forces to the new plan of action on the battlefields.
“This plan is linked to the change of leadership, there are changes that flow from it. Many plans will be prepared due to the information leak,” he said without elaborating.
Russia managed to get its hands on plans for the 2023 Ukrainian counter-offensive before it even began
Volodymyr Zelensky had previously revealed that Russia had managed to get its hands on the plans for the 2023 Ukrainian counter-offensive before it even began, and as a result, this failure dealt a severe blow to Ukraine.
“Our counterattack plans were on the Kremlin table before our operations began,” the Ukrainian president said.
The Ukrainian presidency confirmed that Volodymyr Zelensky did indeed speak of leaking information. It is not known how the plan of the Ukrainian counterattack was leaked to Moscow.
Ukraine's president said troop rotation is important to the war effort and added that Ukraine needs to better prepare its reserve military forces.
The president of Ukraine announced that the Ukrainian forces have received only 30% of the one million pieces of ammunition that the European Union has promised to send.
President Zelensky also warned that Ukraine has reached the tipping point in maintaining the unity that is critical to the war effort against Russia.
“Now is the most difficult point for our unity, and if we break up, from without, and, God forbid, from within, then we shall be at our weakest moment. It hasn't happened yet,” he said.
Ukraine's victory will depend on Western military aid
“Whether Ukraine will lose, whether the situation will be very difficult, whether there will be a very large number of victims depends on you, our partners, the Western world,” President Zelensky said during a press conference.
“If we are strong, armed, we will not lose this war,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the ability of the US Congress to vote in favor of the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine, he said: “I am confident that the outcome of the vote will be positive.”
31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia
The Ukrainian president has said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the war with Russia, making the Ukrainian presidency's account of Ukraine's military casualties public for the first time.
“Thirty-one thousand Ukrainian soldiers were killed in this war. Not 300,000, not 150,000, as Putin and the circle of liars say. But every one of those losses is a big loss for us.”
