Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said “difficult talks” were under way with Russia on Monday, after a fourth round of talks began earlier in the day.
“The difficult conversations continue. Everyone is waiting for news. Tonight we will inform you about the result,” Zelensky said in a video message.
Zelensky was supposed to speak to the Council of Europe earlier on Monday, but he didn’t.
The main negotiator for the Ukrainian side in talks with Russia said the fourth session was being held virtually, not in person. The Ukrainian negotiating team is in Kiev. The previous talks were held in Belarus.
Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podoliak posted an image of the conference on Twitter.
“Parties actively express their specified positions. Communication is taking place, but it is difficult. The reason for the discord is very different political systems.”
The parties actively express their specified positions. Communication is being held yet it’s hard. The reason for the discord is too different political systems. 🇺🇦 is a free dialogue within the society & an obligatory consensus. 🇷🇺 is an ultimatum suppression of its own society pic.twitter.com/O00fnCd1WP
