Zelensky says UK supplies Kiev ‘exactly’ the weapons it needs

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Britain was supplying the weapons Kiev needs to fight the war with Russia, and thanked Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his “complete” understanding of the needs.

Britain said on Monday that, in coordination with the United States, it would provide Ukraine with multiple-launch rocket systems that can hit targets up to 80 kilometers away as part of a new UK military aid to Kiev.

“I am grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for his thorough understanding of our demands and readiness to provide Ukraine with exactly the weapons it needs to protect the lives of our people,” Zelensky said in his nightly video address.

On Monday, Ukrainian and Russian troops fought for control of the industrial city of Severodonetsk in a crucial battle in the Kremlin’s offensive in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.

Zelensky and Johnson held a phone conversation in which the Ukrainian president said the two were “looking for ways to avoid the food crisis and unblock (Ukraine’s) ports”, referring to the Russian naval blockade in Ukraine, which left the latter unable to to export much of its agricultural products.
