Zelensky states that attacks from Russia continue despite Putin’s respite

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday (19) that, according to Ukraine’s main military commander, the Russian troop artillery shots did not stop. This despite the announcement of Easter ceasefire made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“So far, according to chief commander reports, Russian attack operations remain in various sectors of the front line, and Russian artillery fire has not decreased,” Zelensky wrote on the social media platform X.

“Therefore, there is no confidence in the words coming from Moscow.”

Zelensky also recalled that Russia rejected last month a total ceasefire of 30 days proposed by the US and said that if Moscow agreed to “really get involved in a total and unconditional truce format, Ukraine would agree-mirroring Russia’s actions.”

“If a complete ceasefire really is to materialize, Ukraine proposes to extend it beyond Easter Day, April 20,” wrote Zelensky.

Temporary truce

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday (19) a temporary ceasefire during the Easter holiday in Ukraine.

According to the Russian government, the truce began at 18h (local time) this Saturday until 00h on Monday (21).

“Based on humanitarian considerations, the Russian side announces an Easter truce. I order the suspension of all military activities during this period,” Putin told his military chief Valery Gerasimov at a Kremlin meeting.
