Zelensky talks about panic after false warning of significant attack in Kiev

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the panic surrounding reports of a possible significant attack on Wednesday (20), which authorities dismissed as disinformation.

Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence previously said that Russia had staged an “information and psychological attack” by spreading a false warning of a massive attack on Kiev, claiming to be from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence.

“The injection of information that took place today – some panic messages that were sent – all of this only helps Russia,” Zelensky said. “Please take care of yourselves, help our army and make sure no one can use your emotions for their own benefit,” he added.

His comments came after the U.S. embassy in Kyiv closed for a day based on a “possible threat of a significant attack” on the city, according to State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

The spokesperson did not say whether the false warning was what prompted the embassy’s closure, but said the US bases such decisions “on a broad set of factors.”

Zelensky also thanked the US for the latest $275 million aid package for military equipment, including “drones, ammunition and artillery.”
