Zelensky: The Ukrainian defenses are enduring in Donbas

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reiterated his claim that Russia is “trying to get at least some results” as the 100th day of its June 3 invasion approaches. Zelensky plans to address the European Council, which begins on Monday.

The main fronts in the region remain around Sheverodonetsk, Lisichansk, Bakhmut and Popasna, where it is “indescribably difficult”, but Ukraine’s defense holds, Zelensky said in a video on Saturday night. The governor of the region spoke of street battles between Russian and Ukrainian forces in Sheverodonetsk.

Zelensky also said that Russian forces launched an “openly barbaric strike” with rockets and mortars in the Sumy area of northern Ukraine, far from the main Donbas front.
