The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky asked the US for help in establishing a no-fly zone over Ukraine during a telephone conversation with U.S. senators.
It is noted that Western leaders have so far rejected Zelensky’s request to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky called for greater sanctions on Russia, including in the energy sector, and called for more military assistance to Ukrainian forces.
The Ukrainian president thanked the United States for its support so far, but the message he conveyed was that his country needed more help in the face of the Russian invasion. It is recalled that earlier in his statements Vladimir Putin left open the possibility of Ukraine ceasing to be a state.
Zelensky requested warplanes
According to CNN, another senator who spoke at the meeting said that Zelensky was in favor of banning Russian oil imports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a “desperate appeal” to Eastern European countries to provide his country with Russian-made aircraft.
The announcement was made by Chuck Sumer, the leader of the Democratic majority in the House. “These aircraft are very much needed. “And I will do everything I can to help the government facilitate their transfer,” Sumer added in a statement.
The Ukrainian president’s communication with US lawmakers reportedly lasted about an hour.
