Zelensky: Ukraine does not need foreign troops to face Russia

Ukraine “does not need” Allied foreign troops on its territory to confront Russia, which has deployed more than 100,000 men on its borders, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today.

“We do not need foreign-flagged soldiers in our territory. We do not ask for that, otherwise the whole world would be destabilized,” he said in an interview with RBK-Ukraïna.

“We do not want to give Russia another reason to say that we have (foreign) bases here against which (the Russians) must defend themselves,” he added. “But we want everything else,” he said, referring to the military and financial assistance Ukraine is receiving from its Western allies.

Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden said the risk of a Russian invasion of Ukraine was “very high” and could happen “in the coming days”.
