In an interview with Newsmax in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelevsky said that the Ukrainian army is losing 60-100 soldiers every day who are killed in battle, in which 500 soldiers are also wounded every day.
“The most difficult situation has been created in eastern Ukraine and south of Donetsk and Luhansk. The situation is very difficult. Every day we lose 60-100 soldiers in battles and we have about 500 wounded. We keep our defensive perimeter.”
At the same time in his interview he states that Kyiv does not intend to take hasty steps to liberate the territories occupied by the Russians, if this will require tens of thousands of victims, but will wait for the weapons needed.
Zelensky also stressed in his interview that the Ukrainian army is not preparing to attack Russian territory with weapons sent by the United States, especially with multiple long-range missile launchers.
“I know some in the United States or some in the White House say we can use these weapons to attack Russia. Look, we are not going to attack Russia. We are not interested in the Russian Federation, we are not fighting in its territory,” he said. Zelensky, while emphasizing that Ukraine does not intend to cede its territories.
In May, President Zelensky said that up to 100 Ukrainian soldiers were killed every day in fighting in eastern Ukraine.
Neither Ukraine nor Russia announces the losses of their armies on a systematic basis. Russia’s Defense Ministry has made two announcements about the losses of the Russian army during the war, on March 2 and 25. According to the latest information from the Russian Ministry of Defense in Ukraine, 1,351 Russian servicemen have been killed and 3,825 wounded.
Journalists from the Russian service of the BBC have identified the names of 3,052 Russian soldiers and officers who have been killed in Ukraine. Their investigation was based on announcements by the heads of Russian regions and local media reports. At the same time, the Russian service of the BBC clarifies that the number may not be accurate, because the local authorities do not always announce the entire lists of dead soldiers.
In wartime it is impossible to fully verify the loss figures.
