Zelensky: Ukraine still has control of Kiev

LAST UPDATE: 13:43

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that the capital, Kiev, and key cities around it remained under Ukrainian control following Russia’s invasion on Thursday.

“We are resisting and successfully repelling the enemy’s attacks. The battle continues,” he said in a video posted on his social media account.

“The invaders wanted to block the center of our state and install their puppets there, as in Donetsk. We thwarted their plan,” Zelensky continued.

“The enemy has used everything against us: missiles, pursuers, drones, artillery, armored vehicles, saboteurs, paratroopers,” he said, adding that Moscow had hit residential areas and was trying to destroy power plants.

Calling on the West to be more resolute with Russia, he noted that Ukraine has “the right to achieve membership in the European Union.”

“We already have the full support of the EU countries for the disconnection of Russia from the SWIFT system. I hope Germany and Hungary have the courage to support this decision. We have the courage to defend our country, to defend Europe “, added the Ukrainian president.

Addressing the Russian people, he called on the Kremlin to “stop the war immediately.”

“We know that many people in Russia are simply shocked by the misery and cruelty of the government,” he said.
