Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed last night’s speech that his country’s allies and partners are “beginning to understand” its need for weapons, following repeated protests by Kiev over delays in surrender.
“I can say with great satisfaction, and with restrained optimism, that our partners have begun to better understand our needs. To understand exactly what we need. And when we need it.”
“Not in weeks, not in a month. Immediately. Now immediately, because Russia is starting to intensify its attacks.”
Earlier in the day, following a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel in Kyiv, the Ukrainian head of state said that timetables for the arrival of weapons “became clearer” and added that the West was showing “warmer attitude” towards Kiev. while demanding that the European Union avoid delays in deliveries and impose sanctions on Russian oil and gas.
“Germany is not yet ready to take this step,” Zelensky said, criticizing Berlin once again.
Mr Zelensky said in a statement that the situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remained “very serious”.
