THE Volodymyr Zelensky committed in his message to Easter that no “evil” will destroy his country and he prayed to God to bring back happiness to children and consolation to mourning mothers.
In front of the Hagia Sophia in Kyiv, a 1,000-year-old church, Zelensky said in a recorded message to the Ukrainian people that the country would overcome the darkness of the war.
“Today we still believe in the new victory of Ukraine and we are all convinced that no horde or evil will destroy us.”stressed Zelenski wearing the typical khaki t-shirt.
“We will overcome the dark times and today I – like most of us – do not wear bright colors, but we fight for a bright idea”he added.
Today, Easter Sunday, marks two months since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In the past, the country’s churches were full during the evening service of the Resurrection and then on Easter Sunday morning. But this year the authorities have asked not to gather many believers in the churches as there are fears that they will be the target of Russian bombing.
According to Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of Luhansk province, seven churches in the area have been destroyed during the war.
After all, at least 213 children have been killed so far.
“Give every boy and girl a happy childhood, youth and old age so that at least the memories of their horrible childhood during the war will be erased,” Zelenski prayed.
“Take care of our mothers, give patience to those who are waiting for a son or a daughter to return from the war,” he added. “Give patience to those who, unfortunately, will not see their children return from the front.”
“Do not forget Mariupol and its heroic defenders. “The walls can be destroyed, but the foundations on which the spirit of our fighters, the spirit of the whole country, is based, cannot be destroyed.”
