Zuckerberg loses more than half of his fortune and leaves the top 10 richest in the US

American businessman Mark Zuckerberg is no longer one of the ten richest men in the United States.

According to Forbesthe president of Meta, the holding company for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has lost more than half of his fortune, the equivalent of US$ 76.8 billion, since September last year.

The loss dropped him from 3rd on the Forbes 400 list of the richest people in the US to 11th, with an estimated fortune of $57.7 billion.

The list was based on September 2 stock prices.

It is the first time since 2015 that Zuckerberg is not in the top ten.

No one in the United States has lost as much money as Zuckerberg in the last year, says Forbes.

On Forbes’ general list of billionaires, which lists the world’s richest in real time, Zuckerberg appears at 22nd this Tuesday (27) with an estimated fortune of US$ 49.7 billion.

Zuckerberg’s departure from the list of the 10 richest in the US is due to the devaluation of shares in Meta, which reported its first quarterly loss of active daily users in February and reported its first quarterly decline in revenue in July – a 1% drop, to US$ 28.8 billion.

The company faces competition for advertisers with TikTok, amid Zuckerberg’s bet on creating the metaverse, with investments in virtual reality that reduce operating profit.

The company’s metaverse division, Meta Reality Labs, lost $10 billion in 2021.

Mark Zuckerberg became a billionaire at age 23 in 2008, just four years after founding Facebook.
