Samsung has long since announced that it will end support for the Samsung Galaxy S III, which was launched almost 10 years ago, but the model has been actively supported by the modding community. The 2012 flagship was dual-booted, ran the Linux-based Sailfish OS, and even got Linux kernel support.
The latest in a series of developments for the device is the unofficial custom firmware LineageOS 19.0 based on Android 12. The developer from the XDA Developers community under the nickname html6405 confirms that the Samsung Galaxy S III 3G based on the Exynos 4412 SoC (model number GT-I9300) is capable of running Android 12.
Features that work out of the box include radio, camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and normal software / hardware accelerated video playback. However, many of the LineageOS features are missing from the firmware, but that’s ok as it is still a raw version.
A few words about bugs: SIM unlocking is not working yet. As a precaution, you must first disable your SIM PIN using another device, otherwise you will end up with a locked SIM. Also, the NFC module does not work.
