This is what Google Pixel 7 may look like: first camera details

According to LetsGoDigital, Google is going to equip the Google Pixel 7 with the latest technology. This information surfaced in a patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on December 31, 2021.

In order to equip the smartphone with a large screen without cutouts and holes, the manufacturer registered its own solution for a sub-screen camera. The description says that it is an emitting display in a small non-emitting part above the camera, which allows light to enter the camera’s sensor.

An OLED display will be used for this technology. The non-emitting screen allows the sensor to receive enough light for higher quality photos. In addition, the emitting portion of the screen will emit light that will eventually obscure the camera cutout.

This type of technology is not new and has been used in previously released phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Sangmu Choi is reported to be the inventor of the technology for Google, but this patent is reportedly contrary to one of Samsung’s older patents.

Presumably, Sangmu Choi worked at Samsung several years ago, and this could be the reason for the similarity of both patents. Samsung filed a similar patent for an under-display camera back in 2017, with it materializing in the recent Galaxy Z Fold 3.
