2-year-old child dies in landslide in northern Rio

The Rio de Janeiro Fire Department found a lifeless 2-year-old child in the midst of rubble after a landslide in the Chácara do Céu community, in the Tijuca region, in the north of the Rio de Janeiro capital. The girl’s body was found on Rua Tenente Marques de Sousa.

Groups of firefighters from the Tijuca and Alto da Boa Vista barracks are still on the scene looking for other victims of the rains. There are no other deaths or disappearances reported in the state.

The rains started around three o’clock this Tuesday afternoon (7) and had some very quick moments of break. Many streets in the Rio de Janeiro capital were flooded, leaving Rio in a state of Alert, the fourth degree of five levels of risk of accidents.

The forecast is that it will continue to rain over the next few days, which worries the authorities. According to the Rio City Hall Operations Center, the forecast for this Wednesday (8) indicates a lot of cloudiness and rain showers at any time.
