“The Dragon House” the long-awaited series from the same universe as “Game of Thrones”, has been renewed for a second season after the success of its first episode.
Based on the book “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin, the drama takes place 200 years before the events that took place in “Game of Thrones” and focuses on how the royal House of Targaryens enters a civil war.
The plot begins with King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) deliberating who should be his next heir – his brother Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) or his daughter Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).
“Fire reigns. #HouseoftheDragon has been renewed for a second season,” the official “House of the Dragon” Twitter account said.
The show’s Sunday premiere drew nearly 10 million viewers on television and the HBO Max streaming service, the highest ratings for any new original series in the network’s history, according to HBO.
In the UK, where the series airs on Sky Atlantic and the streaming service NOW, the first episode was also a hit with critics and fans alike.
“Game of Thrones” first aired in 2011, becoming a global phenomenon. The award-winning HBO series ended 2019 with an ending that divided fans.
