A grandmother was planning her son’s funeral when he was killed by a stray bullet

A grandmother from Ohio was killed when he was found by a stray bullet while arranging the details of her child’s funeral.

89-year-old Ruth Lewis was at her relatives’ house on Sunday afternoon, sitting in her wheelchair, when she was injured in the back by a stray sphere that passed through the window, according to the report of the local station WKBN-TV.

The old woman died a little later. No one else was injured in the house.

“It was an accidental death caused by an accidental bullet,” said Doug Franklin, the town’s mayor. “Obviously that was not the goal, which is why it is so tragic. “But these are the dangers when you have so many weapons in irresponsible hands.”

Eyewitnesses told police they heard at least 5-10 shots. Some also saw the gunman shooting at the house.

Police do not know at this time if any occupant of the house was the target or what triggered the incident.
