Russian President Vladimir Putin told French President Emmanuel Macron in a call on Monday that a neutral stance for Ukraine is needed to resolve the ongoing conflict, Reuters reported. Russia is open to talks with Ukraine and hopes they will lead to the necessary results, Putin reportedly told Macron on the call.
The Russian and Ukrainian delegations are currently in talks near Ukraine’s border with Belarus. Hopes of an agreed ceasefire are slim as Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry earlier said Ukraine would not surrender to the Russian invaders and demanded that all Russian forces immediately withdraw from Ukraine.
The markets await the outcome of these talks with bated breath. An (unexpected) ceasefire could immediately result in a drastic improvement in risk appetite.
