A New Era of Wireless Headphones: Bluetooth Certified by LE Audio

It’s safe to say that the wireless market is now on the threshold of a completely new generation of wireless headphones – they will be more energy efficient, get better sound and allow the owner to connect an unlimited number of devices to one signal source. All this, manufacturers of the latest devices will be able to implement in their gadgets thanks to Bluetooth LE Audio, a modern technology that has been discussed on the Internet for a long time. And today, July 12, the Bluetooth SIG officially announced that they have certified and standardized the technology – now it is ready to launch.

It is worth recalling that for the first time Bluetooth LE Audio technology was announced at the beginning of 2020 – then the employees of the Bluetooth SIG organization said that the first supported devices would be released before the end of that year. Unfortunately, the standardization and certification of LE Audio was noticeably complicated by the pandemic – the process took the team two and a half years. But now the Bluetooth SIG is sure that the largest manufacturers of wireless headphones will release their new products on the new standard before the end of 2022, since the list of advantages of the new technology is really impressive. For example, the most important upgrade of Bluetooth LE Audio is the latest LC3 codec.

It is specifically designed for more efficient audio transmission, so the user will either get better sound quality at the same bit rate as the current base SBC codec, or only slightly better sound quality at a lower bit rate. In the second case, at a low information transfer rate, power consumption is also reduced, which will lead to an increase in the battery life of gadgets. In addition, the technology boasts the Auracast function – it allows you to connect an unlimited number of devices to the signal source.

For example, it will be easy to connect headphones to one smartphone to listen to music, stream in public places, or connect users to content at the gym without additional equipment. And, most interestingly, Bluetooth LE Audio allows each individual earbud to maintain a separate connection to the signal source – this should significantly improve the performance of TWS models.
