A plant for the production of batteries for electric cars will be built in Moscow for at least 3 billion rubles

The Russian automotive industry, along with the rest of the world, has embarked on electrification. In addition to the production of electric cars in Russia, they plan to launch the production of batteries for them.

An enterprise for the production of batteries for electric vehicles will be built in Moscow under offset contracts concluded between investors and the city government. It is planned to put it into operation by 2024, as stated in a message on the website of the mayor of the capital. Who will become the investors of the project will be determined in the course of electronic competitions.

A new plant can be opened on the territory of the special economic zone (SEZ) “Technopolis Moscow”. More than three billion rubles are planned to be invested in its construction.

“Two new production facilities under offset contracts will appear before 2024 and can be located on the territory of the special economic zone of the capital. One enterprise will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles, the investor will invest at least three billion rubles in the project. Another production facility will produce consumables for the city’s blood service,” said Vladimir Yefimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.

It is worth noting that this is not the only battery production plant that is planned to be opened in Russia. In the fall of 2022, Rosatom began construction of a similar enterprise in the Kaliningrad region. The production of the first batteries for electric cars there will start in 2025 and at first it plans to produce about 50 thousand batteries per year, and then increase the annual production to 120-130 thousand.
