A police officer handling domestic violence cases was murdered in the middle of the road by her ex-partner

France is shocked by a new case of femicide, because one police officer who investigated cases domestic violence, was murdered in the middle of the road by her ex-partner.

The events unfolded in the morning when the 40-year-old woman, who was off duty, was leaving one of her children at the nursery in the village of La Croix de la Rosette, near Chambéry. The prosecutor of Saberi rushed to the area, who refrained from making any statement.

The suspect, a 61-year-old man with whom the officer had two children, killed her “by hitting her with a blunt object,” a source familiar with the investigation said. The suspect, who was known to authorities for other violent incidents, fled and is being sought.

The Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanenin a post on the X platform, expressed his great sadness at this new “femicide”, as he called it, and expressed his condolences to the policewoman’s family, friends and colleagues.

“We are shocked,” he said from his side Fabrice Galatiot, the secretary of the police union Unité SGP-Police in the south-eastern region of France. “Her duties were to handle domestic violence complaints and cases. He was defending society and in the end he became a victim,” he commented. The suspect had previously been charged with assault, harassment and threats, he noted.

Femicide increased by 20% in France in 2021, compared to the previous year: a total of 122 women were killed by their partners or ex-partners, according to the latest available figures from the interior ministry.
