Interviewing Lauro De Marinis is like trying to scratch a titanium armor, trying to open a breach that can reveal what lies behind those green eyes which, unlike what happens on stage, do not challenge the audience but seek shelter elsewhere, in the half-hidden corners of a bare room. More than with words, however, Achille Lauro communicates his world through the stanzas: in Lauro, his sixth studio album to be released on April 16, the artist decides to reset everything and start again from his own name, from the child he was and from the man he became: “After a 2020 in which I enjoyed making a thousand projects and joking, with this album I get back to myself, in regards to both the writing and the sound.
They are all songs that represent me “says Lauro, convinced that failure is the highest manifestation of success, “Failures make us who we are.”
Those who define it as a marketing project, a living testimonial of the Gucci brand, a crafty person who uses provocation to advertise himself does not understand it and, most likely, has never understood it, explains Lauro: “I am a person who loves what he does. , a person who likes to imagine a project and touch it firsthand “he resumes before underlining his love for transformation, but fidelity to his identity: “I have done many different projects, but my soul has never changed.” «Mom doesn’t recognize me anymore, then she says ‘Lauro it’s always you’» sings in Lauro, the song that gives the title to the album, recalling a not too distant past in which he spent “four days awake” and ate “breakfast with pills” and reflecting on the artist he became and bewitched Sanremo, on the boy who a almost 31 years old is trying to unhinge clichés by becoming the spokesperson for a generation that can’t wait to be heard.
In this album there is a lot of your past: what relationship do you have with your memories?
“I believe that everything that belongs to the past is part of who we are today. Now I lead a different life, due to and thanks to success: I am more distant from the old me, but I keep all contacts, every time I go back to Rome I am fine ».
Is there a change that has upset you the most?
«I changed the way of thinking, of approaching life: before I was another person. A psychoanalyst would say that you are not yourself if you do not know at least 3 parts of you: well, I have known at least fifteen. Mine was a radical change ».
In Generation X draws a parallel between the kids of today and those of the time: what did you deduce?
“I wanted to emphasize this disillusioned generation who did not believe in parents, marriage and the church and ours, which lives on addictions like technology by accepting it without knowing what it will lead us to.”
The spiritual component continues to have a certain weight for her: like when she sings “Christ is a woman”.
“It’s the opposite of everything, like my life.”
How come after all these years the provocation on the spiritual sphere continues to cause a sensation, in your opinion?
«I find the controversy right: when there is, it means that something is working and that you are reaching more people without stopping in your circle. The game is there, in putting something in front of people for which they are not ready, confronting with something non-standard. Like my San Remo: the first time was strange, over the years the public was faced with something misunderstood on which to build a controversy, but behind it there has always been a very strong ideal. Those who stop at appearances will say that St. Francis was only a provocation, but in reality it was much more. A framework”.
Have you always had this desire to argue?
«I have always done as I wanted, I have never made myself too many problems. I have always followed myself and that’s it ».
Are you happy with where it got to?
«I am happy to express my ideas and to assert them. I listen to others a lot and look for inspiration in everything around me: the road is already in my head, but then there are some things you have to take from what comes. It is a confrontation, a war every day ».
A comparison that art and music try to translate: when did this attention begin?
“Already in my first mixtape, Barabbas, there was a fairly focused vision at the imaginary level. For me, songs have a dress: there is a world that is already in the head of those who make them and those who listen to them, the point is to be able to transfer what one thinks effectively, and that is why I am very careful to details. It is very important to respect the color of the songs ».
Earlier he spoke of torment: are thoughts more orderly today than yesterday?
«Man is always tormented. I am never satisfied with what I have, I always think about the future and look at the past with melancholy ».
A past that, as it sings in Female, she has often seen the man hiding behind his manhood.
“Fortunately, society is evolving and there are people who are fighting for human rights to defeat these nonsense that in 2021 no longer make sense. In Female I highlight a character aspect common to many people, the male who hides behind virility knowing that the woman is the woman ».
He dedicates a specific song to feminism, Marilù. What is feminism for you today?
“I have always fought for rights, I am on the side of those in difficulty and for justice. We have come from 100 difficult years, now we have to change something: the world is changing now, and this is why it is essential to put myself on the side of those who have not yet won these rights ».
Will we ever arrive at an ideal world?
“Certainly Italy will always be a step behind the world. In my small way I will try to use my spaces to sensitize someone. There was a nice line from Morgan on Rolls Royce: even if one person buys a Doors record it will be a success. Here, for me this is true for a little bit of everything: if for two insignificant words a person manages to change, I can say that I am happy ».
In an ideal world, the primitive force is always love: how do you see it?
«I have a very cynical vision of love, it is something that belongs to a time of lightness that I no longer live and that I associate with childhood. Love is a bit like life: at some point the magic can vanish. Love is difficult, the couple is difficult, the path is difficult: it is not a smooth road. I no longer experience love as a fairy tale, but as something to be built, a real job ».
So you don’t believe it?
«I live with strong emotions. Let’s say that I believe in love that is built slowly and not in easy love ».
And do you believe in dreams?
«I live with dreams every day, the construction of something that wasn’t there before. I believe in people who build their dreams ».
What did you dream of as a child?
“What I do now.”
And did it all come true?
«With great effort and after so much effort – I am always the last to go to bed and the first to wake up. Certainly a part has come true ».
What is left?
«There is always a goal afterwards: once you have achieved one thing, you always want something else, or something more or something different. On the one hand it is good, because it feeds everything I do ».
In the difficult time we are living in, between the virus and the stop of live music, we need dreams: are you optimistic about the future?
«I am optimistic that we will get out of this situation. Now it is important to stay close to those who are ill and to those on the front line to fight this invisible enemy. Once all this ends and there will be no more danger, it is important, however, to restart the world of concerts, a system plagued by this virus and more ».
The closure did not, however, eliminate the wickedness which, in some ways, has also amplified. How do you live it?
“Badness is an abstract word. If we talk about the judgment of others, we must be very careful before exposing ourselves and try to evaluate different levels of reading. Personally, I am used to it: I choose to show what I do and, consequently, I accept the judgments, which cannot all be positive. I don’t give a damn, I want there to be criticism but, on a general level, it is important to protect the weak from those who don’t realize that a word has the power to take other paths. We have to encourage the kids to do more, we need people who change something ».
