Activity and employment in construction have the highest pace since 2010, says CNI

The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) released, this Wednesday (17), data that point to growth in activity and employment in civil construction in July this year. According to the confederation, these two indicators have advanced at the highest rates since 2010.

According to the report, the construction activity level index, for example, registered 52.5 points in July 2022. As it is above the 50-point dividing line, the result indicates an expansion of activity in relation to June.

In addition, the value is the highest since October 2010, indicating high expansion, in the entity’s assessment. The data are part of the Construction Industry Survey.

The index for the evolution of the number of employees was 51.9 points, also above the 50-point dividing line, indicating a rise in construction employment in July. This expansion was the highest in the historical series that began in 2011.

Construction Operating Capacity Utilization (UCO) increased by one point to 68% in July compared to June. It is the highest UCO for the month of July in eight years, according to the confederation. Construction investment intention also advanced, reaching the highest level since 2014.

industry confidence

The Entrepreneur Confidence Index (ICEI) of the construction industry advanced 3.2 points, to 60 points in August 2022. The data shows high and widespread confidence among entrepreneurs.

“The rise in the index is due to the improvement in the assessment of construction entrepreneurs about the Brazilian economy”, says the CNI, in a note.

The current conditions index of the Brazilian economy advanced 5.4 points to 52.7 points, crossing the 50-point dividing line. The confederation assesses that the number demonstrates “the transition from a perception of a worsening economy, in July, to an improvement in the economy, in August”.

Finally, the index of expectations about the Brazilian economy also grew five points and stood at 61.7 points, which shows more optimism regarding the economic scenario in the next six months, according to the entity.
