After activating the Alonzo hard fork on the Cardano blockchain, more than 200 smart contracts are locked pending full launch.
According to
Adapools, Cardano has already created over 200 smart contracts since the deployment of the Alonzo hard fork on September 13. However, all these contracts are currently in timelock status and cannot be used yet. This means that the developers still consider them to be insufficiently operational.
According to Vercel App, the number of smart contracts ready for launch is much higher – there are already more than 2,300 of them. But this site does not provide details and specific addresses.
Smart contracts have been expected in Cardano since the network’s launch in 2017. This option appeared on the blockchain after the activation of the Alonzo update at the beginning of the week, and many projects intend to test the new network.
Cardano and IOHK founder Charles Hoskinson said the DeFi industry will now be open to the public as Cardano supports smart contracts. Hoskinson said the leaders of the “second wave” of DeFi will gain liquidity, interoperability and the ability to host their applications across multiple networks.
“We need governance, certification, insurance, regulation, metadata identification … At the same time, we need decentralization,” he said. “We created Cardano to launch the second wave of DeFi.”
Several large projects have already created smart contracts in Cardano and are planning to launch soon. For example, Liqwid is an open source non-custodian liquidity protocol for interest rate curves. Interest in the network has been shown by the developers of SingularityNET, a platform that allows anyone to create, share and monetize AI services at any scale, as well as Cardax, the first DEX on Cardano.
Cardano will be backward compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and hopes to attract DeFi developers looking to save on transaction fees. The ADA price has risen 170% since mid-July and is now trading around $ 2.4 – about 20% below the all-time high of $ 3.09 reached earlier this month.
