New extension of 3 months for the completion of the construction of the “Roussin” type missile boat (TPK no.7) at the Elefsina shipyards and the completion of the remaining works and sea trials on the 4 submarines (“Pipinos”, “Matrozos”, ” Katsonis”, type 214 as well as the upgraded submarine “Oceanos”, type 209) at the Greek Shipyards Skaramanga (the previous ones expired on June 30) provide for two provisions of the Ministry of National Defense, which were included in the bill of the Ministry of Environment & Energy on the subject: “Provisions for the simplification of environmental licensing, establishing a framework for the development of Offshore Wind Farms, dealing with the energy crisis, environmental protection and other provisions” voted by the Parliament.
As the Minister of National Defence, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, said, for the completion of the shipbuilding project, additional funding of 3,075,000 euros and 10,300,000 euros will be required, respectively, to cover payroll and employee insurance contributions, operating expenses, staff movement services, technical support and materials.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos announced that sea trials are about to begin in TPC No. 7 so that it will join the Fleet in the fall.
Furthermore, there is a provision for the Skaramangas shipyards, according to which the transfer of the shipyards to the investor will result in the immediate receipt of the submarines as well as the performance of the premises and infrastructure where the work is carried out on them, and the employment relationship between the workers in those of the Navy as well. It is reasonably probable that in the next quarter the transfer of the Skaramangas shipyards to the investor can be completed. If this happens, then this provision is also taken for the employment status of the employees, who will now regulate their relationship with the new employer, he clarified.
Mr. Panagiotopoulos recalled the government’s interest in continuing to employ the workers at the two shipyards until the ongoing investment efforts are successful, while a necessary condition for the Elefsina shipyards is the approval of the consolidation plan that has been submitted, he observed. The government, the minister said, never left them hanging in the air and ensured (including their employment) with these successive extensions with the Navy programs.
The Minister of National Defense expressed the hope that the time has come when both shipyards, despite the major problems they have faced over the years, will see the dawn of a completely new day, which will certainly ensure their beneficial operation of the Navy and the Armed Forces.
