Adele receives raves after Las Vegas residency opening show

An “incredibly nervous” Adele kicked off her Las Vegas shows on Friday, 10 months after angering fans by postponing her last-minute artist residency.

People who attended the first “Weekends with Adele” concert at Caesars Palace said they were thrilled to finally see the Grammy-winning singer live on stage and seemed to forgive her for the delay. The audience received her with a standing ovation.

“Thank you for coming back to me,” said the singer, according to videos posted on social media.

Fans in the crowd said the show was intimate and were moved by her performance of hits like “Hello”, “Easy on Me” and “Set Fire to the Rain”.

“I swear Adele just put on one of the best shows I’ve ever witnessed in my life,” wrote one Twitter user.

The British singer faced backlash in January when, in a tearful video, she apologized to fans saying she couldn’t do the shows because half her staff were sick with Covid-19 and the pandemic caused delivery delays.

She said her team “tried absolutely everything” but “it was impossible to finish the show”. The shows were supposed to start the next day and some fans were heading to the US state of Nevada when they got the news.

On Thursday night (17), the singer and songwriter shared a photo of herself on Instagram during a rehearsal in a childhood photo setting.

“I’m so excited, incredibly nervous, but I can’t sit still because I’m so excited. I always get scared before shows and I take that as a good sign because it means I care and it means I just want to do a good job,” she wrote.

The 34-year-old Brit is scheduled to perform weekends in Las Vegas through March.

Known for ballads about heartbreak and nostalgia, Adele made her musical comeback last year with her fourth studio album 30, which reached No. 1 on music charts around the world. It is nominated for the coveted “Album of the Year” award at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
