Aeronautics: System used by Marília Mendonça pilot did not show wires

The Air Force informed the CNN that the network of wires into which the plane of the singer Marília Mendonça collided was not within the aerodrome’s protection zone, that is, it is not considered an obstacle for landings. For this reason, the information made available to the pilot, for preparing the flight plan, did not warn about cable networks.

It is not discarded that the pilot, experienced in the profession, could have knowledge from another source of the existence of the threads, which only the investigation by the FAB will confirm.

The information provided by the Air Force, at the request of the CNN, confirm what Cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) said earlier that the tower was outside the protection zone, therefore, there was no prohibition by the FAB to be built there.

According to the Airspace Control Department (DECEA) of the Air Force Command, the pilot knew that the landing route had other obstacles, not yet detailed by the FAB to the report, but they were not the wire tower.

“The notice, called INFOTEMP, indicated obligatory knowledge obstacles for pilots who intend to operate at the Caratinga aerodrome. It is important to emphasize that the obstacles that appear in the notice are not high voltage cables”, explains the FAB.

Before any flight, it is common for pilots to access the aeronautical information available on the Decea website to see which obstacles exist on the route, such as trees, buildings and mountains.

Based on the information, “it is expected that the flight will be carried out respecting the limits stated in the relevant publications, avoiding, in the case of INFOTEMP, the reported obstacle”.

“Because the transmission line in that section where the accident occurred is beyond the limits of the Basic Aerodrome Protection Plan, these cables were not part of the analysis, according to the criteria of the International Civil Aviation Organization”, explains Decea.

As well as INFOTEMP, other aeronautical databases such as ROTAER, NOTAM and Cartas are available on the website aisweb.decea.mil.br.
