After Hurricane Ian Damage, Starlink Will Provide Florida Internet, Governor Says

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said SpaceX Chief Executive Elon has agreed to provide the company’s Starlink satellite internet service to help respond to Hurricane Ian in areas of Southwest Florida as yet without connectivity.

“We are working with the Elon Musk satellite and Starlink. They are positioning these Starlink satellites to provide good coverage in Southwest Florida and other affected areas,” DeSantis told reporters Saturday.

“We expect an additional 120 large Starlink units to be deployed in Southwest Florida.”

Hurricane Ian

Now downgraded to the category of post-tropical cyclone, Ian has already caused the death of at least 42 people in Florida, in the United States. This Friday (30), the phenomenon hit the state of South Carolina.

The initially named Hurricane Ian left a trail of destruction wherever it passed in Florida. In the coastal area, houses were washed out to sea.

Across the state, buildings were destroyed and floodwaters toppled homes and businesses and left people stranded, even inland. Record floods were recorded in central and northern Florida.
