After messages on social networks, PM reinforces policing in schools in Rio

“I was not calm. My husband arrived at the school door to drop my daughter off, but I thought it best to go home with her”. The report is from a mother, who preferred not to identify herself. This Monday morning (10th), she received messages alerting her to an alleged attack on schools in the Jacarepaguá region, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The same question was raised by other families who have children in schools there. The subject was much debated in groups of parents and residents throughout the day.

Faced with fear, especially after the attacks on educational institutions in São Paulo and Blumenau, the child’s school sent a message to those responsible informing them about the establishment’s safety procedures.

A CNN contacted the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro, which informed that it has not yet been activated.

The Military Police, on the other hand, stated that there is no need to panic. In a note, the corporation said that patrolling in areas where complaints were made was intensified, including with the School Patrol.

In addition, the PM reported that the Intelligence Service is monitoring and seeking data to identify the authors of threats that circulate in messaging applications.

According to the Municipal Secretary of Education, no school was closed because of the threats. Also in a note, he informed that he continues to monitor everything that could disturb the routine of school life and is working together with the police forces and other public bodies to guarantee peace in their units.
